Grand Cayman - Overview

Grand Cayman Coat of Arms

Hidden away in the western Caribbean Sea, 150 miles south of Cuba and 180 miles northwest of Jamaica, the Cayman Islands are an archipelago of three islands – Cayman Brac, Little Cayman and the more prominent and decidedly larger Grand Cayman.

The Cayman Islands are the fifth largest financial centre in the world (after New York, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong) and the largest offshore centre. A total of 10,037 funds were registered in the Cayman Islands at the end of June 2008, this has more than doubled since 2003. The success of the Cayman Islands is based on the Islands' strategic location, stable political and economic environment, nil direct tax system, sound legislative framework and sophisticated infrastructure.

Boasting famous Seven Mile Beach, crystal clear Caribbean waters and a near endless variety of marine life, Grand Cayman is a tropical paradise for divers, snorkelers, fishermen and water sports enthusiasts alike.

Grand Cayman is approximately 22 miles long and 8 miles at its widest point, reaching a maximum elevation of 79.77 feet in North Side. Grand Cayman has a population of approximately 44,000 people and is a British Overseas Territory.
